Our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Page

Have Questions About Building a Swimming Pool or Landscapes? We Have Answers!

At Serenity Designs, we understand that building a pool or designing a landscape can be overwhelming. Our FAQ page addresses common questions to help you make informed decisions about your project!

What’s Included in a Complimentary Design Consultation?

Our complimentary design consultation begins with a brief phone meeting with our experienced designers to discuss your project and vision. In this session, we will listen to your ideas and needs, providing an overview of basic budgeting for your construction project. We value your time and strive to ensure the design aligns with your expectations and budget. If your expectations fit within a reasonable budget, we are dedicated to maximizing the value of your time.

Following the initial consultation, we require a design package to proceed. This step allows us to measure the yard, discuss plant selection, determine swimming pool placement, and engage in the visualization process necessary to deliver our comprehensive design package.

How long does the design process take?

Typically, the completion time for an average design range from 4 to 6 weeks, contingent upon the speed of communication between the client and the designer.

When do we pay the Design Fee?

The design fee is paid upfront at the beginning of the project, enabling us to promptly deliver content as soon as it’s created, without the need to wait for payment milestones.

Do you have contractors who install the project?

Yes, we can manage and install our designs. This is our preference. We understand that some clients may choose to install the project themselves and we are happy to provide support for that. However, if you feel more comfortable having us handle the installation, our team is available for full-scale construction services. We will provide a detailed quote after the design process is complete based on your specific requirements. If the client decides to hire Serenity Designs, we will take charge of managing the project. However, if the client chooses another contractor for the installation, we can still provide additional consultations to assist, but the project management responsibility would not be ours.

Can we use your design for obtaining other estimates from other companies?

While owner builder applications are technically possible, we strongly advise against pursuing this route. Our designs can be complex and often require precise measurements and quality workmanship. Designs do not usually include all the information necessary for permitting unless specifically charged for.

What if I do not like the design?

Our designer will keep you updated on the progress of your drafts as your design evolves, ensuring your satisfaction throughout the process and avoiding any surprises. Upon completion of a draft, you are entitled to a complimentary revision if the initial concept does not meet your expectations. For instance, if the initial draft is a freeform pool and, as the design nears completion, you decide you prefer a geometric pool, you are entitled to a revision at no extra cost. If the second revision still does not meet your expectations, you have the option to purchase additional design revisions.

Can you install a design we already have?

Absolutely. We are happy to provide installation services for existing designs. For this, we will require a thorough examination of the plans before providing a quote. Once installation begins, we can provide additional consultations for any changes you would like to make along the way.

Why should I purchase a Serenity design instead of just getting a free estimate from another contractor?

  1. It minimizes the number of appointments with contractors.
  2. Everyone can bid on identical plans.
  3. You can now finish the design phase and then plan out the remaining phases without feeling overwhelmed by the need to tackle everything at once.
  4. It will ensure greater accuracy in your bid, minimize guesswork and subjective opinions that may complicate the process. This will result in a more streamlined project.
  5. It is simpler and more cost-effective to modify plans than to alter the actual thing.
  6. Free with a contracted project of 30k or more (discounted at end of project installation).

What are the differences between landscape designers and landscape contractors?

Landscape designers offer a range of services including design ideas, landscape plans, planting plans, and lighting plans. Some may also assist with material selection and plant placement during installation. While they can provide conceptual ideas for garden structures, irrigation, and hardscape layout, they typically do not have the licensing to provide construction drawings or actual construction services. Their expertise lies in residential design, focusing on design strategies, hardscape options, and appropriate plant materials for residential projects. They often collaborate closely with contractors to ensure the aesthetic elements of an installation are executed effectively.

Landscape Contractors are licensed professionals who bring the designs of landscape designers and landscape architects to life. Some contractors even offer design services themselves. If you choose to work with a design/build firm, it’s important to clarify their design process. Will you receive landscape drawings for review and approval, or will you get a verbal or written description? Some design/build companies include the design fees in the overall cost of construction, but it’s still crucial to understand the breakdown in case you decide to hire a different company for installation.

Serenity Designs is proud to be a license swimming pool and landscape design firm and contractor.  This means we can provide comprehensive design and construction services, ensuring a seamless process from start to finish.  So why settle for just a free estimate from a random landscape crew when you can have the expertise and creativity of our team at Serenity Designs? What is a fair landscape construction budget?

Successful landscape projects start with a clear budget. Openly discuss your budget with the landscape designer, who can help balance premium materials and cost-effective choices for a stunning space that matches your functional, aesthetic, and budgetary needs. Before seeking contractor quotes, ensure your budget includes ongoing care and maintenance of your new landscape. Proper maintenance protects your investment and ensures years of enjoyment.

As a rule, budget about 5-10% of your home’s total value, including land, for landscape installation or renovation (average-sized yards). For example, if your home is valued at $550,000, allocating $27,500 to $55,500 for landscaping can yield up to a 200% return on investment. Unique materials, mature plants, or intricate hardscapes can enhance these returns. Intelligent landscape design can significantly increase your home’s value. In some areas of California, the land can be as valuable as the home itself. By implementing well-designed, installed, and maintained landscaping, you can boost your property’s overall value.

What is a fair swimming pool construction budget?

Swimming pool construction costs vary greatly based on size, type, and features. A middle of the road inground pool typically ranges from $65,000 to $90,000. Custom designs with features like waterfalls, rockwork, and retaining walls can cost more.

Establishing a budget before starting is crucial to achieve your pool within financial means. At Serenity Designs, we work closely with clients to create a realistic budget that matches their vision, ensuring no time or money is wasted on an unaffordable project. We can adjust the budget and offer financing options, so talk to us about what’s best.
